The 17th Annual Central Florida Jewish Film Festival, taking place November 14th – 16th, is a cinematic celebration of Jewish life, culture, and history. Using the power of film to inform, educate, and most of all entertain, the festival challenges conventional perspectives on issues facing all of us. This program is part of Enzian’s cultural festival circuit and is co-presented with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando and sponsored by Orlando Weekly.
A special menu will also be offered throughout the festival, including: Spinach & Cheese Knishes, Latkes, Holishkes, Hebrew National Hot Dogs, and Beef, Carrot, & Sweet Potato Tzimmes.
ROSENWALD
Monday, November 16th at 4:15PM
This film will be playing at Enzian Theater
From the award-winning director of The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg and Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg, Aviva Kempner’s ROSENWALD is the incredible story of Julius Rosenwald, who never finished high school but rose to become the President of Sears. Influenced by the writings of educator Booker T. Washington, this Jewish philanthropist joined forces with African-American communities during the Jim Crow South to build over 5300 schools during the early part of the 20th century. Inspired by the Jewish ideals of tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (repairing the world), and a deep concern for racial inequality, the modest Rosenwald used his wealth to become one of the country’s most important philanthropists and Pre-Civil Rights Movement social activists. He gave away $62 million in his lifetime, and it’s time to shine a spotlight on this remarkable man’s achievements.
