As summer draws to a close, participants of the 2025 Orlando Girls Rock Camp (OGRC) are gearing up for their final act: a live showcase concert. This annual performance, which highlights the work created during the weeklong music camp, will take place on Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at Conduit. Tickets are available on a sliding scale from $13 to $36.
This year’s camp welcomed one of its largest groups to date, bringing together girls and non-binary youth from across Central Florida. Under the guidance of local musicians, artists, and DIY professionals, campers formed bands, wrote original songs, and collaborated on creative projects throughout the week. The culmination of their efforts will be on full display during Saturday’s public performance.
Orlando Girls Rock Camp is part of a broader movement aimed at empowering youth through music education and community support. According to the organization, OGRC provides a space where girls, non-binary youth, and women can build self-esteem, learn new skills, and explore artistic expression without the constraints of gender-based stereotypes.
“We want to eradicate all the limiting myths about music and gender that make girls and nonbinary people afraid to speak up, sing out, and make noise,” the organization’s website reads. “We want to abolish all the obsolete traditions that restrict many girls’ and women’s free musical expression and obstruct their access to the world of music.”
The camp’s mission is to challenge outdated perceptions in the music industry and to open doors for underrepresented voices. Through mentorship, workshops, and performance opportunities, OGRC encourages participants to take on both creative and technical roles in music, whether in rock, hip-hop, pop, or any other genre.
Saturday’s showcase offers a glimpse into what the campers have learned and created in just a few short days. For attendees, it’s a chance to support the next generation of musicians and changemakers and to witness the power of community-centered music education in action.
