From Nov. 6 through 28, Alliance for the Arts will present three new exhibitions: exploring the unexpected through surreal and unconventional artwork, an immersive installation celebrating the natural world, and figure drawings honoring the human form. Guests are invited to a free reception that will take place Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. At this reception, guests can experience these new exhibitions, meet participating artists, and enjoy complimentary appetizers.
That’s Absurd.
In the Main Gallery, a group exhibition entitled That’s Absurd. will be featured. The art’s goal is to explore the place between meaning and meaninglessness, humor and seriousness, and the familiar and the unexpected. Viewers will be invited to question assumptions about the conventional way of seeing the world and embrace the illogical.
Night Swim
An exhibition by Zan Lombardo will be featured in the Foulds Theatre Gallery, entitled Night Swim. Lombardo’s installation was inspired by the imagined experience of standing on a dock at night, watching fish move toward underwater lights. The exhibition will invite viewers into an exploration of light, nature, and the paths that guide people forward. Continuous painted scrolls will divide the installation into sections, so viewers can take time to soak in the wild beauty of the natural world and the challenges of watching its mistreatment.
Nude Works
Throughout the Member Gallery, figure studies by students of Instructed Life Drawing and Life Drawing Lounge will be featured. The artwork comes directly from the observation of the human form, with the works showcasing gesture, structure, form, and personal expression of the human body. The Instructed Life Drawing exhibition is led by Francesco Gillia, and participants are encouraged to look beyond simple representation. In Life Drawing Lounge, which is led by artist Juli Bobman, provides a relaxed, open studio for practicing skills through extended poses and individual exploration. Both works celebrate life drawing as a foundational artistic practice and a means of creative discovery.
The next day, Saturday, Nov. 7, will be the Alliance’s immersive celebration of the human form called Nude Nocturne. The event will be inspired by the event’s theme, which is “A Celebration of the Human Form, With a Side of Absurdity,” where That’s Absurd. showcases the playful, unconventional, and unexpected, and Nude Works directly observes and explores the human form. The exhibitions will complement the evening event with live art, body painting, aerialists, burlesque performances, live figure drawing, and music.
Alliance for the Arts is located at 10091 McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers. Their campus and galleries are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
