Walmart is expanding its drone delivery service to reach millions of new customers across the southern United States. The company announced on June 5 that the service—powered by drone technology provider Wing—will soon be available in five new metro areas: Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Houston. The expansion will bring drone delivery to 100 store locations, covering a six-mile radius around each participating site.
Customers in the newly added cities can register to receive notifications when the service becomes available in their area by visiting wing.com/walmart.
The drone delivery program, which first launched in Bentonville, Arkansas, and Dallas, Texas, in 2021, is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to reimagine the future of retail through technology. With over 150,000 deliveries already completed nationwide, the service has demonstrated its ability to fulfill orders in minutes, offering a fast, contactless delivery solution.
Through the program, shoppers will have access to thousands of products available at local Walmart stores—including fresh produce, pantry staples, household essentials, and quick snacks. During checkout, customers confirm the exact delivery location on their property, such as the front yard, backyard, or driveway.
Once the order is placed, items are packed into a custom-designed box. A Wing drone then departs from the local Walmart store, retrieves the package, and travels at speeds of up to 65 miles per hour to the customer’s location. The drone gently lowers the box to the ground, completing the delivery just minutes after takeoff.
According to Wing, the service has already had a significant impact in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area, where customers frequently use drone delivery to simplify everyday errands. Stories from DFW residents highlight its convenience, with busy parents ordering last-minute snacks, home cooks receiving missing ingredients mid-recipe, and DIY enthusiasts obtaining essential tools to finish their projects.
As Walmart and Wing expand their footprint, the service aims to offer a new standard in delivery speed and convenience, transforming how consumers access everyday goods in urban and suburban communities.
