This past month, Dr. Barbara Jenkins, Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) Superintendent, spoke at the East Orlando Chamber’s monthly luncheon. She provided an update on how our public schools are offering students alternative options. Not every student who graduates follows the traditional path to college, and many never even consider going. OCPS has designated numerous schools that now offer alternative career paths and courses, including hospitality, medical, technical and trades.
Did you know students can attend Orange Technical College, graduate high school as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and be debt free when they graduate? This example is just one of many opportunities.
In keeping with the theme of what OCPS is providing, we have added an Art of Innovation component to Education Day. This year, vendors will be paired in villages, along with OCPS schools and Orange County Government Services who provide products or services with similar themes. No matter the industry, vendors will have interactive booths to showcase their business, engaging students in an activity to teach them something new about their business. There will still be the student performances and the fun inflatables for the younger children, but now attendees will be engaged and learn about our East Orlando businesses.
The East Orlando Chamber of Commerce covers over 440 square miles east of I-4 and has benefits you won’t believe. Check our website, www.EOCC.org, or call the office at 407-277-5951 to discover more.
