For the last 15 years, Peter Schreyer and the Heritage Team have been collecting and researching the history of Hannibal Square, the long-established African-American neighborhood in west Winter Park. This summer, a dream came true for Schreyer, when the Florida Historical Society released The Hannibal Square Heritage Collection: Photographs and Oral Histories, a new book devoted to the community project that resulted in the founding of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center in 2007.

A new addition to Hannibal Square Heritage Center’s permanent collection of documentary photography and oral histories also will be celebrated this summer at the opening reception for the Hannibal Square Heritage Collection Phase VIII: The Collins Family.

The collection runs from July 22 through Sept. 3.
